Set in Iran, where dance is illegal, Desert Dancer tells the story of Afshin Ghaffarian who risked his life to fight for his dream to become a dancer. With YouTube as his teacher, Afshin starts an underground dance group at university with his friends. As their skills increase Afshin and his group are determined to put on a secret performance far out in the desert. On their return, Afshin and his friends join the millions on the streets as they protest and march for their freedom. Captured by the militia, Afshin is taken back to the desert to be executed. He manages to escape but finding himself a marked man, he flees to France. In Paris, he is granted asylum and awarded free entry to Paris' most prestigious dance school.
